Jesus Teaches About The Cost Of Following Him
Matthew 18:18-22
18 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. 19 Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”
20 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”
21 Another disciple said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
22 But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”
REFLECTION:
While this passage was really challenging for me, I meditated and found that Jesus was not being unreasonable or inconsiderate of me and my loved ones. He wanted me to understand that to follow him I will need to let go of some people and things that I thought were important. I also understand, that he will take care of those people and things if needed. I know that it is a matter of trusting Jesus with my life to do the work he has for me to do.
APPLICATION:
I should examine what I am placing before Jesus. What am I postponing to do what he would have me to do?
PRAYER:
Holy Spirit reveal to me the things and people that I put before following God and Jesus help me to let them go to follow you. Help me to trust you with the concerns of those people or things. Thank you, Lord. Amen.
