Jesus Teaches About the Law
Scripture: Matthew 5:17-20
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
REFLECTION:
Our righteousness must come from:
- 1. From what God does in us and not what we can do in ourselves.
- 2. Be God-centered and not self-centered.
- 3. Be based on reverence for God and not approval for people.
- 4. Go beyond keeping the law to living by the principles behind the law.
We should be just as concerned about our attitudes that people don’t see as about our actions that are seen by all.
APPLICATION:
What will yours be? How will you make a change in seeking righteousness ? You gotta be intentional, otherwise, you fall back in the trap.
PRAYER:
Lord we give you our desire to apply this message in our lives. We ask that you help us identify what needs to be changed. Help us not to be concerned about what others think, but more concerened about what gives you reverence and glory. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
